| Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) is an overweight, but enthusiastic high school senior, who has been working up the courage to ask out his secret crush. When his expression of his feelings to Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart) is publicly rebuffed because they are 'just friends' he runs off and resolves to never be a 'friend' to a girl again. Ten years later Brander has become a successful and desirable record producer with a reputation as a womanizer. While working with an up and coming pop singer Samantha James (Anna Faris), he finds himself back in his hometown when their plane trip to Paris is cut short by a malfunction. Finding himself back in his old town with his old friends and the people he grew up with Brander thinks now is his chance to get his old flame. No matter what he seems to try though, he always seems to end up as 'Just Friends'. |
